Olá Amesterdão! :)

Mais uma vez na minha cidade europeia favorita e na altura do ano perfeita :)

Destinei esta passagem por Amesterdão para visitar o famoso Keukenhof, um parque cheio de tulipas, a flor característica dos Países Baixos. Este parque só está aberto durante a Primavera (as datas diferem todos os anos) estando em funcionamento normalmente desde Março até Maio. O Keukenhof não fica, no entanto, em Amesterdão. Fica na cidade de Lisse, a cerca de 20 minutos do aeroporto de Shiphol. 

Ora, como é que eu podia aterrar em Amesterdão e não ir passear pelas cidade e ir apenas ver tulipas...? Impossível! :)

Sexta-feira à noite em Amesterdão é, basicamente, uma sexta-feira em qualquer sítio do mundo: é noite para comemorar, nem que seja a chegada do fim-de-semana. 

Esta sexta-feira, no entanto, tinha um motivo especial. No dia anterior, dia 4 de Maio, os holandeses comemoraram o Dia Memorial aos Mortos (Nationale Dodenherdenking) e dia 5 de Maio é o Dia da Libertação. Estes dias comemoram a libertação holandesa da ocupação nazi.

No dia seguinte fui então ao Keukenhof.

Como ir: O ideal será ir pela manhã. Apesar de ser uma hora concorrida (e por isso as fotos das tulipas ficarem com estranhos como fundo...), pela tarde as filas são ainda maiores.
Apanha-se um comboio a partir da Centraal Station até ao aeroporto (estação Shiphol Airport), que custa cerca de 5€ (ou 10€ ida/volta). 

Dentro do aeroporto, basta seguir em direcção à zona das lojas - seguindo as placas Arrivals 4. Do lado esquerdo do Starbucks há uma porta que dá para o exterior. 

Aí é bastante fácil ver que estamos no local certo: há uma bilheteira onde podemos adquirir o bilhete (24€, incluindo entrada no parque e o transporte de ida/volta para Lisse) e filas enormes para apanhar então o autocarro 858, que vem de 5 em 5 minutos.

Dica: Quando comprarem o bilhete, peçam também os horários dos autocarros. Facilita a organizar a vinda :)

A viagem leva cerca de 20 minutos.

Este ano o tema do parque é "Design Holandês". O parque tem várias zonas diferentes, vários tipos de tulipas e outras flores, as quais podemos visitar com a ajuda do mapa que nos é fornecido à entrada.

No parque existem vários restaurantes e pequenas bancas a vender alguns dos tradicionais petiscos holandeses. Há também uma zona com um DJ e vários festivais ao longo dos dois meses. Nesta altura estava a acontecer o Festival Gastronómico.

No parque existe também um moinho, outro dos ícones tradicionais holandeses. É possível entrar e subir ao moinho sem qualquer custo adicional e ver, por dentro, como é que ele funciona.

Outras das opções tipicamente holandesas possíveis de se fazer neste parque são a de visitar o parque pedalando uma bicicleta ou fazer um passeio de barco pelos canais do parque.

O parque pode ser visto em 2-3 horas e é um must do pelo menos uma vez na vida :)

Once again in my favorite European city and at the perfect time :)

In this trip to Amsterdam I decided to visit the famous Keukenhof, a park full of tulips, the characteristic flower of the Netherlands. This park is only open during spring (dates differ every year) and it is normally open from March until May. However, the Keukenhof is not situated in Amsterdam. It is in the town of Lisse, about 20 minutes away from Shiphol Airport.

So, how could I be in Amsterdam and not go to the city center, sightseeing around the beautiful city and just go to see tulips ...? Impossible! :)

Friday's night in Amsterdam is basically like a friday anywhere in the world: it's night to celebrate, even if it's just the weekend's arrival.

This friday, however, had a special reason. The day before, May 4, the Dutch celebrated Memorial Day for the Dead (Nationale Dodenherdenking) and May 5 is the Liberation Day. On these days they commemorate the Dutch liberation of the Nazi occupation.

The next day I went to the Keukenhof.

How to go: The ideal time to go is in the morning. Although it is a busy time (and the photos of tulips have strangers as background..), in the afternoon the queues are even bigger.

Get a train from Centraal Station to the airport (Shiphol Airport station), which costs around € 5 (or € 10 round trip).

Inside of the airport, go to the stores' area - following the Arrivals 4 signs. On the left side of Starbucks there is a door that leads to the outside.

It is quite easy to see that we are in the right place: there is a ticket office where we can get the ticket (€ 24, including admission to the park and round-trip transport to Lisse) and huge queues to take the bus 858, which comes every 5 minutes.

Tip: When you buy the ticket, ask for the bus schedules as well.

The journey takes about 20 minutes.

This year the theme of the park is "Dutch Design". The park has several different zones, various types of tulips and other flowers, which we can see with the help of the map that is provided to us at the entrance.

In the park there are several restaurants and small stalls selling some of the traditional Dutch snacks. There is also an area with a DJ and several festivals throughout the two months. At this time the Gastronomic Festival was happening.

In the park there is also a windmill, also a traditional Dutch icon. It is possible to enter and go up the windmill without any additional cost and so we can see, inside, how it works.

Other typical Dutch things to do in this park: visit the park by cycling or take a boat trip through the canals.

The park can be seen in 2-3 hours and is a must do at least once in life :)
